IMPACT OF ONE'S OWN SOCIALIZATION PROCESS ON 'BECOMING A TEACHER AND ITS LIMITATION'
If I had to describe the term socialization in simple words . I would say
it is a process with the help of which a living organism is changed into
a social being. It is through which the younger generation like us learns the
adult role which we have to play subsequently. It is a continuous process in
the life of an individual and it continues from generation to generation. Socialization stands for the development of the human brain, body, attitude, behavior and so forth. The term socialization refers to the process of
interaction through which the growing individual learns the habits, attitudes,
values and beliefs of the social group into which he has been born.
This socialization process has influenced my desire to become a teacher.
As a Student
Family: When I was student my
parents always wanted to see me as an Engineer. Since we belong to middle class
family my father being a government servant, always wanted me to complete my
studies faster and get a decent job may be as an Engineer and I had liking as well. But destiny had
something other for me as I was not able to clear entrance exam I could not
grab the particular stream I had opted for. Apart from this I always liked
chemistry as a subject and then I decided to join bachelor’s degree. During the
initial stages my family was not happy with my decision. I was under pressure
that time. When I discussed with my family that
once I complete my graduation I will go for post-graduation and I want
to become a teacher ,the family had an intention that it would take more time
for me to complete my studies and opt for job whereas my batch mate would soon
start earning.
Society: Speaking about the
society I could see neighbors asking my parents as to why did I choose this
field as it has no scope. Father used to
be completely behind me . I even used to get negative feedback from my relatives.
School: When I was in school I was not aware
as to how you choose a particular stream and how do you get job. Neither
teachers took any trouble to tell us nor I made any attempts. It was during my
higher secondary when this career term came into picture. I had few teachers
who were very partial to us and I always wondered why they do like this and I
would say to myself that if I happen to be a teacher I would never do such
things.
Myself as a high secondary
student never had an intention of becoming a teacher in any way, it was destiny
which brought me here.
As a Student teacher
Family: As I got into the B.Ed. course, now I find my family supportive and they always encourage me in
whatever I do. Sometimes they say that u did a better job by joining the B.Ed. course and that gives me a proud feeling.
Peers: I find that for a B.Ed.course their not much competition among peers for marks and that is the reason
may be all peers are so good to each other. My peers are very helpful though it
may be in providing small help to even taking care about each other’s and that
keeps me going.
School: Upon joining entering the B.Ed. course, I received appropriate and adequate teaching skills from the
teacher. They precisely taught us how to present a good lesson similarly
inculcated good behaviors within us. One thing I find different in B.Ed. College
apart from other colleges is that B.Ed. College just not focus on academics but
on overall development of a student and I enjoy working in such condition.
Limitations:
Today’s society encourages
students to opt for Medical or engineering. To become a teacher you have to
enter through graduation and people think those who are weak in academics
and don’t get admission anywhere are
becoming teachers. Few students join B.Ed. thinking that they will get a secure
job as a teacher but don’t have any interest in teaching. Whereas those students
who have liking for teaching don’t join B.Ed. course thinking that they will
have waste more years in getting the required qualifications or may be due to
some family issues.
